Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari met and talked with Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace in Beirut on Monday morning. The session was also attended by Iran’s Ambassador to the Arab country Mohammad Fathali.
At the meeting, upon receiving President Rouhani’s invitation for an official visit, Aoun stated that he would travel to Tehran once diplomatic procedures are followed.
He also congratulated the launch of Hassan Rouhani’s second term and emphasized the need to develop bilateral ties between Tehran and Beirut.
Michel Aoun later welcomed the efforts to restore peace, security and stability to the region and stressed the need to pursue dialogues through Astana talks in a bid to terminate the Syrian crisis.
The Lebanese president underscored that his country pursued the stable policy of not interfering with internal affairs of Arab countries and remaining aloof from foreign disputes.
“Given the national consensus formed in on performing anti-terrorist operations by the Lebanese army, terrorism will be soon uprooted in eastern and northern regions of the country,” he continued.
Iran’s Jaberi Ansari, for his part, underscored that Iran supported Lebanon’s fight against terrorism and would back restoration of stability to political conditions in the Arab country.
